Installing COD5 server on Centos 5.2 (under wine)
By DNK (d.k.emaillists@gmail.com) with help from many on the COD mailing list (cod@icculus.org). Thanks!
**For now, I have to attach the file until I can get the time to post it**
File is clean, has all the instructions for installing and running a CoD:WaW server in Linux using Wine
-
Nice , ill try that out soon.
-
Emulation? I guess it'll do, but man those shared hosts better have serious hardware per rig if they want to go this route.
-
Emulation nothing -- according to the mailling and my OWN tests -- PING and Patency along with CPU % Resources, runs very very good
-
Yeah as far as wine goes, emulation is very efficient. Not sure about that Patency stuff, but if it works, hey cool. HAHA I'm just messin with ya joker
In terms of emulators, wine has always seemed to run the best, when it ran the program correctly. That's the only problem I ever had with it, simply getting a program to run. If it ran, it ran smooth.
Gotta remember what WINE stands for:
Wine Is Not an Emulator
Go figure  LOL

Ok, so I did this all at work, and now I am at home trying this again but..................
Anyone got a link to a Cent OS install CD and NOT the LiveCD?

1 through 6, or the DVD
edit: Here's the link list in case you want another one.

SWEET -- thanks
-
Anytime man :)
-
Anyone else give this a try yet? Pretty sweet so far, I'm alittle over half way done with the install
-
I have a box I could do it on, but it's running freeBSD and I'm still warm and fuzzy about mastering BSD so I'm not going to wipe it yet LOL. I have another box that's doing nothing but it's a celeron system so I'm not sure it would run it worth a damn.
What hardware are you running yours on?
-
I'm just running a small P4 2.4ghz with 512MB ram -- nothing fancy, just want to work the tutorial
-
Ah ok, sweet. I can probably run it then :)
-
I remember something being said on the cod list about Ubuntu, but haven't seen a tut come across.
But m8, I was really surprised with CentOS 5.2 -- X environment and everything, was very easy to install it, update it, and run the entire tutorial and have a server up and running in no time.
Give it a try
-
I decided to give the machine a try and got a kernel panic, so I went with virtual PC instead.
God I love having an overclocked quad core...
Installer is super fast on drive speed as opposed to CD/DVD speed.
