We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.

And, dev console: confirmed.

You all know what this means right?  X6 or eXtreme BlackOps or X:BO -- hmmm, oh screw the name, we are going to be modding this badboy!!!

I have dusted off my text editor and am ready to rumble.

I wish some of the old school modders for COD were allowed some first peeks at the thing to ready our minds and creativity.

I know if they are still scripting there will be clever memory rippers to get the gsc's out quick.

I wonder sometimes if the developers think that the modders are ruining their work?  I think we are just having fun with the game as they intended users - to have fun whether it is playing or modding to each his own.

Count me in Sam.

ASP-SniperOne.

If they thought you were ruining there work they would never give mod tools out.
Dont forget as joker found out that with out community driven ideas they would have nothing fresh for there games.
They might make games but when you string a game out each year ideas get very thin on the ground.

You guys who mod or map or what ever are the reason cod is still doing the rounds.

And i do think if a mod is made using there tools and they put it into the full game that they should give some credit to the people or group who made it.
Ethics work for big companys too if they use an idea to make sales on a new product.

But they will never give credit where credit is due.
Nothing worse than having to admit your community is the source of your game ideas.

Good news all the same.

I have to admit to being a little suspect on this... but hey good for Treyarch if they do....

Given that the engine is basically WaW it may make sense to use WaW as the porting base for Black ops... I guess if this is the case we can reserect X5 v3... which was almost ready when the MP for WaW went to the dogs...

Hi Sam.

This is indeed great news for you guys. cant wait to see what you guys can do with this.

PS.. Still have you on my BETA TESTER list ;)

as member (an ex member) of the community, is it possible for you,Paulo88, to give some truthful, concrete news ,to maybe squash the fears and rumers that this game is going to be another modern warfail 2?,
i mean just one gsp will not work, steam is ok , ***but vac fails bigtime***, just check  how many hackers are on mw2 , and no one can admin them out of a game..
had mw2 been released the same way and conditions as cod4 and waw, it wouldve been the best game made, ever..as it is its useless and gathering dust in homes everywhere..

what the community needs is a game thats fully admin controlled with our own choice of gsp's, fully modable, patched to its max with new maps, not rehashed cod4 stuff, (weve played those maps for 3 years now), a game thats even better than cod4 but is fully manageable, modable, just like it is..
already the pc communities worst fears look like happening..
i made the mistake of buying mw2(for both my pc's btw), i wont be making the same mistake by preordering / buying bo till MY gsp can provide it..and i know that were not being screwed again..

*** note ,just to prove how srewd vac is, theres hackers galore on mw2 still uysing aimbots, wallhacks etc,
 but,
a great cod skinner like Ze Limper, a guy whos been skinning for years on cod, got banned by vac coz he was testing new skins/textures for mw2
now he is no hacker, yet  his old guid got banned and the new one he bought also..***

Im thinking now, yet another year of cod4 gaming for most of us.....

While you all continue to make the game incredible, going above and beyond to make the game more customizable, will you continue to support the game if the company is only allowing 1 GSP to carry BO?  The community as a whole doesn't appear to be happy, but I am curious how the people who are the creative drive behind most of what the company has been changing feels about it?
