.iwd looping........
« on: March 02, 2008, 08:42:14 pm »
I run a home computer "server "and have set up a separate icon (pointing to a separate COD 4 directory) that enables me to "join" the game on my home computer "server".

All .iwd files and map .ff files are located in the usermaps folder. On the redirect the usermap folder contains the .iwd files, map .ff and load .ff files
This was suggested in another thread here.

Occassionaly when I start a map on the "server" then join it, I get an .iwd file load  then 5 secs later reloads again. It loops endlessly unless I reboot the computer.

The puzzling thing is that all files have been loaded to "server", client copy of COD 4 and the redirect so there should not be anything needed to be downloaded from the redirect.

I have verified that no load .ff files are anywhere except the redirect and there are no .iwd files in the fs_games folder.

The thing that is also strange is I can go into a map on day with no problems and the next time in I get the .iwd load looping.

Any ideas?????

Thanks in advance

That's the way I originally set everything up but then I was advised (in another thread I had) to change it and put all the iwd files in the usermaps folder.

Well *LOL*

You really need to open each map's IWD and see if there are scripts in it.

No scripts -- usermaps folders

Scripts -- mods folders

As you probably know I'm pretty new at this....
Scripts.....what would I look for in the .iwd?
I've been in it before but not sure what to look for here....
Thanks Joker

If the IWD has a file that ends in .GSC -- that is a script

One last question off subject.

In a thread called Sniper Map by Lucky HS you said:

Quote
The z_x4_sniper.iwd is NOT a replacement iwd, but is an ADDON to z_x4.iwd

In the install directions I read it said to replace the z_x4.iwd with the z_x4_sniper.iwd

I take from what you said you run both???

Thanks again... I appreciate your help AND WISDOM!!!

Unfortunately, I found out today while helping Lucky, that I was wrong *L*

That sniper IWD is the X4 v1.0 Single IWD setup -- just been tweaked for a more Sniper style of play

Howdy fellas,

I had a problem also with .iwd's looping on my server. Now I read this post as well as a lot of others dealing with the redirect looping and I figured I would add to this post and explain in my words how I fixed mine...

My maps would loop randomly different maps each time. The problem was due to the maps having a so called dirty .iwd file. Now usually you add your map and all its files to your usermaps folder for example usermaps/mp_dunes. Unfortunately some maps .IWD will not work properly and will cause  the .iwd looping redirect problem.

The fix is to move the .iwd and put it in your root directory of your MOD and leave the remaining files in usermaps\mp_dunes. so for the map mp_dunes i moved the mp_dunes.iwd to the root dir of mod folder and left the remaining 2 files mp_dunes.ff and mp_dunes_load.ff in the usermap/mp_dunes folder.

Here is the path to my mod folder. mine is called tc_x4v2 but you can name yours whatever you want

c:\program files\activision\call of duty 4 - moder warefare\Mods\tc_x4v2.

Now I had a few dirty .iwd maps and really the only way i figured out what maps had the problem was google each map. Now after a month of redirects I can now play every map with no looping .IWD's.

I hope this helps someone else because I had a hell of a time trying to figure out what the hell was going on

These are the maps i had with dirty iwd's:

mp_dunes
mp_lost
mp_toybox4
mp_village

Now these .iwd's are in my tc_x4v2 folder and the remaining files of the maps are in  each usermap/mp_MAPNAME folders.

Best of luck,
Grimmy

Hey Grimmy -- placing the maps IWD into the Mods folder is not recommended at all.  I know you say it works, and it does, however will cause you problems later on down the line.

2 things you can do with a Dirty IWD are:

#1 -- Don't use the map ;)
#2 -- Using pakscape or Winrar, open the map IWD -- remove the GSC files and place them on your server in the same file structure as in the IWD, save your now clean IWD and put it back in the usermaps folder

Really, the only thing that should be in a maps IWD is the images folder

ah sweet I'll take a look. Just to clarify I want to keep the same file structure for the map but just put those files in my server?

ie. mp_village has gsc files in folders named
-maps/mp
-maps/createfx

Im just gunna pull those folders out of winrar and put them in my server under the maps folder correct?

What about sound folders? do I pull those out also in some maps and add the folder to my root dir?

Absolutely m8, with 1 small exception

Sounds need to remain in the IWD's -- which I did not say in my above post. *L*

Images
Sounds

Those 2 things can remain in the IWD of the maps

:)
