Editing and working with .efx files

Can somebody explain me how to change colour of the fire effects from weapons (not tracers)..for example tompson. I'm making my own mode for the server so i want to add this effects. I found in iw_07.iwd/fx/muzzleflashes?

Find the efx you want to edit. Load it into the COD2 Effects Editor, and check if changing the color of one or more segments makes any difference. If not, you may have to edit the colors of some shaders instead.

The only problem is i can't load them. I took the file from iw_07 the thompson_view.efx and put it in source_data and the problem is i can't load it i can't understand why is this happening.

Make an fx folder within source_data, and put the efx files there. Some efx files will call other efx files within a certain path, so sometimes you must recreate the path in source_data.
You need at least:
source_data\fx\
