« on: August 22, 2007, 09:55:33 am »
I am writting in this board, cuz is not qestion about eXtreme.
You helped me with Http redirect, so maybe You can help me with this qestion too :)
Finally we have a server on v.1.3. I added to mod new images and all new sounds [this sounds was made by me]. And some clans just steal this files from my IWD and run it on their own server. So I have qestion. IS any way to make password on .iwd file?? We can make password in WinRAR on .rar or .zip files, so maybe we can do this on .iwd too?

How should the client be able to read the file if its password protected?

Make a official soundpack that other can download and ask them to give credit to you.

Not possible !

We tried this over at R&R Projects to try and stop other mappers adjusting or even removing things from our maps.

After many head aches and lots of time trying to work it out we came to the conclusion that it was just not possible.

Maybe an idea to upload your sounds or post a link to your funny sounds so everyone know they come from you  :D

one other thing that you can do is take it out of the client side of the mod, make a new iwd file with a folder called sound in it, and make it server sided so player don't download it. just add _svr_ to the iwd name. i have been doing this for awhile now with our music mods on our server, works fine.

But don't the sounds have to be downloaded to the client to play on his machine?  :?:

no, i keep custom gun sounds server sided also and all players hear them, you don't even have to make a new iwd, just make a sound folder on the server side of the mod and put any sounds you want in there, just make the appropriate folders, ie. weapons, misc, etc. works fine for me, i have been doing it this way for many versions to keep the download size down, and it has not affected pings.

EDIT:

actually, i guess i was not clear, this was my fault. if you make another iwd file, the players will not hear it unless they download, you are right there, but if you put them server side of the mod, in that iwd file, they will be heard. hope this makes more sense lol, i knew what i wanted to say, but just said it wrong.

A Solution to this Problem:

Change your way of thinking.

Instead of beating yourself around the head trying to stop people stealing your stuff, give it away for free, and feel proud of it.

If someone thinks your work is good enough to steal, then teach yourself to regard that as a compliment.

This approach grew out of the months and months of depair at trying to stop people taking my work. Now, they cannot steal it, as I GIVE IT AWAY. They cant steal what is given to them as a gift.

Fucks them up good and proper in my opinion  8)

guys, i apologize, when i tested this using players, i had them ftp into the server to get the mod, but i did not know they were getting the server side as well, and they didn't need to be, so when they said the sound worked server sided, it was because they had them, i just found this out today. so again i apologize for any confusion, and now i will go finish eating my shoe, anyone have any ketchup?
