.50 Cal Barret question
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:11:00 am »
Hey everyone,

first of, awesome mod. Lots of fun to tweak and play with.

Anyways, one of my squad members discovered that if you have the .50 Cal Barret, as you run forward, instead of the retical widening to make your shots harder, the retical actually closes completely so that its very easy to kill someone from a distance.

I looked around and searched for threads already covering this, but could not find anything. If this has already been covered I apologize for making a duplicate thread.

If it has been covered, if you could just point me to the info I would appreciate it.

If not, please take a look at this and tell me if this is something that I need to change on the server side of if this is something that needs to be done in an update.

Thanks for your time,
Norman =EID=

Talking about the Zoom perhaps?  If you are, this is not a Bug, the ability to zoom in and out in a sniper rifle scope is a feature we put into the mod.  You can turn it off if you would like below

config/weaponcontrol.cfg <---- Pertains to all scoped sniper rifles

//******************************************************************************
// Sniper Zoom Levels
//******************************************************************************
// 0 = disable (default)
// 1 = enable
set ex_zoom "1"

// minimum zoom level allowed
// min = 1, max = 10 (default = 1)
set ex_zoom_min "1"

// maximum zoom level allowed
// min = ex_zoom_min, max = 10 (default = 10)
set ex_zoom_max "10"

// default zoom level
// min = ex_zoom_min, max = ex_zoom_max (default = 7)
set ex_zoom_default "4"

// reset zoom level when switching levels
// 0 = disable (default)
// 1 = enable
//set ex_zoom_switchreset "0"

// reset zoom level when toggling ADS
// 0 = disable (default)
// 1 = enable
//set ex_zoom_adsreset "0"

// gradual increase or decrease of zoom level
// 0 = disable
// 1 = enable (default)
//set ex_zoom_gradual "1"

OK, gonna try to upload some SS' to show whats going on. I tested this on a couple different maps with a few different squad members, all the results are the same.

When you are using a rifle other then the Barrett (or any other gun for that matter) when your standing still, your retical is a certain size, as demonstrated here with the R700:

When you move (run forward, strafe, etc) the retical grows in size, as demonstrated in this SS with the R700:

With the Barret, as you stand still, the retical is as it should be:

However, with the Barrett, when you move (run, strafe, etc) instead of the retical growing in size, it actually shrinks:

This give you an advantage, as you can hit someone from across the map as long as the crosshairs are on the person, even while running full speed.

I have also tested this in our second server that does not run the X4 mod and it does not do this.

If this isn't clear enough, I'm more then happy to demonstrate in my server at any time.

Once again, thanks for taking a look,
Norman

What other IWD's do you have in your fs_game folder?

Have you added any files to your z_x4.iwd or mod.ff and if so, what files?

This is everything in the folder:

I have not added or modified any of the mod files (except for the configs for game play of course) in any way.

Remove the following:

mp_dunes.iwd
mp_freeb.iwd
z_prision_block.iwd

Are those map iWD's?  If so map IWD's never ever go into the fs_game folder with the mod

zip up all the contents of your fs_game folder and send it over to me

Unfortunately you are the only one I know of experiencing this problem.

We've been having this problem with x4v2 and now with x4v3. What was wrong with his barret Joker?
