Initial server thoughts
« on: November 09, 2010, 12:54:38 pm »
Well Gameservers who have the exclusive right to host this STEAM game will not allow FTP access to the unranked servers.  The only controls you have with unranked servers is through the console or RCON tool.

What that means for us is that for now at least there will be no mods possible with this game even for unranked.  If FTP was accessable we could mod the game right now out of the box with server-side mods and map mods like we did for COD5 etc.

If FTP is never allowed we can forget modding outside of setting parameters with RCON.

Very sad to see gameservers do this.  Perhaps this is just temporary until the "Mod tools" are released.  One must consider that if they really think we will have moddable content we would need FTP.  I hope that mod tools are not just mapping tools.

Not so much really in that it looks to me to be a central server loading issue.  When you play a private or unranked match the lag is not noticable.

To me it is a lot like COD6 but with different features that are better.

If we are able to mod it, it will be great.

There's an option in the menu that says "Allow Downloading" so hopefully Treyarch went over the basics with them...

BO Pros.. killstreaks look great , weapons look great, player skin adaptability look great..

cons... looks and plays like a waw mod,
too much server lag, server crashes,
dont like fact u need 6 players on before anyone can play,
rcon is crap..no variability at all,
but i guess im lucky in that i can find and play on my server..
according to gameservers.com forums that and the above are real issues..

will have to wait and see how it goes, unless they patch bo to match cod4 set up , it will fail, just like waw,
i think this game will eventually go the way of waw and mw2, a dust collector on the shelves ..unless they sort it properly and fast..

As the structure of the code looks to be an extention of WAW, mods will be easy and plentiful.

I really feel like they will open up access soon.

I think we need to start a Black Ops Extreme topic and start talking the possibilities.
