I'm going to be absent
« on: January 26, 2011, 08:53:04 pm »
Hello guys,

I'm going to be absent for awhile, maybe a week.  My entire family has been sick the last few days, as I have too, but tonight my 10 year old son was taken to the Emergency Room - my wife is with him - while I am at home with my 2 girls.

Please everyone do your best to keep up on the forums and I will see you all very soon.

If you are a religious person, please keep my son (Kyle) in your prayers!

Thanks

Well, alittle update.

My son, Kyle, was admitted last night to the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit with a diagnosis of Diabetic KetoAcidosis.  Was confirmed this morning that he is now a Type 1 Diabetic.

He is stable, back to his normal self, blood sugars are within normal limits due to the insulin drip.  They are going to discontinue the insulin drip and start him on insulin shots and move him to the transitional unit and prep for discharge.

 I know how you feel man. My son went through the same thing when he was 5 years old. He is a type 1 diabetic and he's 12 now. Just remember, it's not the end of the world for him. Proper diet and regular exercise is the key to diabetes. You'll all have to learn a new way of eating and work on a different type of lifestyle but your whole family will benefit from it. Diabetes is the new epidemic and with any luck, it's nearly curable. We just have to get past the moral issue of stem cells and cloning. If you need some advice or another parents point of view, I can share what I've learnt and the obstacles my son and I have gone through! It's not bad, it's just a wake up call for all of us! He'll be fine.

My son just got his 2nd Degree Black belt in TaeKwonDo. Diabetes hasn't slowed him down one bit. He's 5'10 160 lbs and built like a brick sh!t house. Check out his board break for his 2nd Dan. The plastic boards simulate 4 1X10 pieces of wood.

I think the Diabetes has made him what he is today!

Hang in there................... It'll all be good!
