Steady Sniper Rifles
« on: October 10, 2011, 04:11:20 pm »
I'm new to CoD4 x3, so far I must have set things up rite, Server didn't catch on fire yet... lol

Can I get some pointers on how to set No Sway on the Scopped Rifles?
Everything else seems to be fine.

EDIT:
Never mind, thought it would be harder to find, looked into the client side mod, it's in there.

:cheers:

First off, .iwd is a compressed file, you can open it with any compression tool like WinZip or WinRAR, I prefer WinRAR.
What you are seeking is located in z_x4v3.iwd, what you'll see in there are 5 folders, look for weapons/mp.
Inside mp is all the weapons... You want the Sniper rifles.

 The Sniper Rifles are:
    Barrett .50cal = barrett_mp
    Dragunov = dragunov_mp
    M21 = m21_mp
    M40A3 = m40a3_mp
    R700 = remington700_mp

You don't have to extract it, just make the changes, save and close. «--- better off going this way.

If you do extract the iwd file, there is a little stand alone program called PakScape that will compress the Mod ready for uploading, default extension is pk3, but you can add iwd when you save it.

Open barrett_mp for example... with notepad then go to Edit and click "Find"
Type adsIdleAmount in the Find window, then enter you'll see adsIdleAmount\40\ change 40 to 0 zero
this is no sway while looking through the scope

I hope this answers your question... [/size]  :)

Thanks so much for the great information!

This should be posted as a mini-tutorial. Thanks m8

worked!

I went to the client side just like you instructed. Instead of modifying the sniper rifle in the IWD file, I went into the weapons folder and made the change.
Now every time I compile the changes are there.

Everything seems to be working correctly, compiling, etc. I think I'm ready to move forward with this mod.
I'll try not to bother everyone here too often as I get up to speed  lol   :)

The only other question I have is, do I have the correct mod files? These are the ones I have (X4v3.0):

http://www.mycallofduty.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&cid=40

I see the RC5 files out there but had issues compiling....

Don’t be shy on asking for help, even if your question may seem silly, something you over looked or need a second set of eyes.

This is an excellent community; there are lots of people that will help out.

Thanks Katman. Just two questions:

After a lot of reading about the X4v3 mod, I believe the RC5 build is the latest release. Am I correct??

Also, no RC5 RAW files are available for this build as of today. Is this correct?

I worked all night to get the Barret working right. Here are my settings if anyone needs them. Might save you a bit of time..

In the barret weapons file, I set the "adsIdleAmount" to "1". You get a little bit of sway but not much, perfect for me.

In the _ex_zoom I set this:  self.ex_zoomtarget = (71 - (zoomlevel * 7));

Zoom is now perfect, with all levels from 1 to 10.

As a note, if you add the "+4" it distorts the screen. I get a fisheye effect.

Using the above settings, I can quickly modify all the other sniper rifles.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Last thing: can anyone confirm? Is RC5 the latest build for X4v3? Just no RAW files yet. Is that correct?

I do believe RC5 is the latest out, forgot to add this in the last post. I haven't seen any RAW files for RC5 as of yet.

This is what I found in a folder called X4RC5-update3, so it must be the latest and greatest:

Thanks for that guys.

I tried the RAW files PatmanSan and when I try to start the server I get the sentry_gun not found error and the server shutsdown.

I have another set of RC5 RAW files and its 60 megs. I set that up and when I start the server I the message "more than 1200 sounds" and the server shuts down.

Haven't modified anything except the server name, ip and port in the server cfg. so I'm guessing this isn't going to work.

I have the x4v3beta and RAW files for that and all works fine. Maybe I need to fallback to that..

Suggestions anyone? Has anyone talked to Joker about this lately?
I've read through the posts and cannot find much on it..  thanx everyone for the help.

NVR mind -it works! I deleted everything and started over and the server came right up. I'm now on RC5. Woohoo!

thanx m8s and thanx again PatmanSan for the link and files.
